To bring fairness to their property-tax systems, Scarsdale and Mamaroneck have embarked on revaluation of their municipalities’ real-estate. The efforts come 44 years after their properties were last valued on a townwide basis.
Tax Watch accompanied a data collector in Scarsdale as he knocked on doors in the village’s Edgewood section, with hopes of gaining entry so he could accurately document the dimensions inside.
If homeowners won’t let appraisers in, Assessor Nanette Albanese says the village will assume that the home  will be in excellent condition and have both a finished basement and finished attic, which will add to the living square footage. Homeowners can then invite the appraisers in to prove otherwise.
