Mitt Romney’s selection of US Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate in the fall presidential campaign has already had an impact on the closely watched Congressional race in New York’s 18th Congressional District.
Tea Party-backed Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, R-Bedford, considers Ryan her mentor, and she has twice voted for the Ryan budget, which cuts taxes for the wealthy, and transforms the Medicare program from a federal entitlement to a voucher program in which seniors would get federal assistance to purchase a private insurance policy.
