The Journal News/Lohud.com is running a special report tomorrow and Monday on the East Ramapo school district, a taxpayer-funded system fighting financial insolvency and bitterly divided between the mostly black and Hispanic children and families who use the schools and the Hasidic and ultra-Orthodox majority who run the Board of Education and send their children to private, religious schools.
We look at this intractable situation from all sides — parents and children, teachers and administrators, community members and the school board itself — and explore whether the East Ramapo schools can be saved.
