County Executive Rob Astorino’s ambitious plan to transform Playland Park could provide an unintended bonanza for the city of Rye, its schools, and the county itself.
With Astorino planning on turning over the park to private operators, city of Rye Assessor Noreen Whitty says she’ll analyze the final deal to determine if the private operations will go on the tax rolls.
Sustainable Playland’s asset manager, Dan Biederman, the nationally renowned expert in the private management of public open-space, says the county never brought up taxes in discussions over the past two years. But the county has nothing to do with property assessment. That’s up the city of Rye, where the park is located.
Tax Watch on Friday takes a look at Sustainable Playland’s proposal, and its possible tax consequences.
