For the second time in 20 years, Westchester County’s Playland boardwalk has been seriously damaged by a fierce storm. County Executive Rob Astorino has vowed to rebuild it. Tax Watch on Friday explores how the boardwalk restoration could become an issue in Astorino’s plan to transfer management of the park to the nonprofit Sustainable Playland. That group wants to make the park more environmentally friendly and economically sustainable. With so many boardwalks destroyed by Sandy, I’m wondering if it’s worth the public investment.
Here’s Matt Brown’s picture of a piece of the boardwalk, floating out to sea.
