Actor and Rockland County resident Stephen Baldwin was arrested Thursday on charges that he failed to pay more than $350,000 in state income taxes. The 46-year-old Upper Grandview resident pled not guilty during an arraignment in Nyack Village Court and was released without bail.
Baldwin faces a felony count of repeated failure to file personal income tax returns (for 2008, 2009 and 2010). Prosecutors say he owes more than $350,000 in penalties and interest.
Baldwin’s lawyer, Russell M. Yankwitt of White Plains, said that his client has not committed a crime and is eager to pay any money he might owe.
“Mr. Baldwin appreciates the discretion and patience the district attorney has shown, and he will work with the D.A.’s Office to resolve these issues,” Yankwitt said.
Rockland District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said that his office is cracking down on suspected tax cheats. Baldwin is due in Nyack Village Court on Feb. 5.
