Here’s the statement:
CSEA calls on legislators to keep commitment to budget restorations
WHITE PLAINS – Officials from CSEA, the largest union representing Westchester County employees, today called on members of the Westchester County Board of Legislators to keep their commitment and restore the 126 county positions slated for elimination when they vote on the amended 2013 county budget later today.
Earlier in the week, legislators on the Budget & Appropriations Committee restored the 126 jobs, noting the detrimental impact such cuts would have on public safety and quality of life in Westchester County. CSEA officials today urged legislators to not allow politics to undermine the restorations.
“We urge our legislators to put people before politics,” said CSEA Westchester County Unit 9200 President Karen Pecora. “Our CSEA members have done an excellent job during the three budget hearings, explaining in detail how cutting services and the people who provide them will put people at risk and harm our quality of life. We recognize the tough decisions our legislators are facing, but when the choice comes between boots on the ground in the county workforce and political appointees, the decision is a no-brainer. These 126 layoffs cannot go through.”
