As the fiscal cliff negotiations stall in Washington, DC, legislators and national leaders have taken differing positions on which Bush-era tax cuts should be extended on Jan. 1.
President Obama campaigned to preserve the tax cuts for those earning less than $250,000 while US Rep. Nita Lowey, D-Harrison, and US Sen. Charles Schumer, D-New York, have advocated for preserving the cuts for those earning less than $1 million. The 2 percentage point payroll tax cut will also expire on Dec. 31.
