The Mid-Hudson RegionalEconomic Development Council was awarded $92.8 million dollars in grants this week for 84 projects around the region, including $1 million for restoration of the Glenwood Power Plant; $1 million for an iBio Incubator at New York Medical College in Valhalla; $775,000 to create a Hudson Valley Food Hub in Ulster County; and $1.5 million for the expansion of the Echo Bay Waterfront in New Rochelle.
Other projects that are being funded include hospital expansions at Bon Secours Charity Health System in Suffern, Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle and Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco. Yonkers Rising, a high-rise and office building project, received $2 million. The state awarded $921,425 to unearth an additional section of the Saw Mill River; $1.35 million to New Square to buy land and construct a building for a supermarket and a local nonprofit; $2 million to White Plains to redevelop the Post Road Corridor; and $9.5 million to rehabilitate a 100-unit low-income senior housing facility at Maple Terrace in New Rochelle.
The Mid-Hudson region —one of 10 in the state—was recognized as having one of the best strategic plans. Awards given out statewide totaled $738 million in state funds and tax breaks for 725 projects.

Westchester:
—$97,297 to the Campaign for the Westchester Children’s Museum to install fire and smoke detection systems in the new facility at the North Bathhouse of Rye Playland.
—$150,000 to the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in Katonah to develop and present “In the Garden of Sonic Delights,” an interactive exhibition.
—$1 million to Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle to develop a new Class A Medical Office and Ambulatory Services Building and parking structure.
—$125,000 to Peekskill to design a multi-use waterfront trail and related amenities along the Hudson River shoreline from Charles Point Pier Park to the Charles Point Marina and parking lot.
—$50,000 to Peekskill to update its Local Waterfront Revitalization Program adopted in 2004 to refine its vision for its waterfront area and adjacent downtown.
—$2 million to City of White Plains to redevelop the Post Road Corridor, consisting of a mixed-use development, a parking garage, redevelopment of White Plains Hospital, and upgrades to the Winbook housing complex.
—$2 million Yonkers Rising Development’s Phase One redevelopment plan for renovation and adaptive reuse of five targeted properties in downtown Yonkers into mixed-use space.
—$921,425 to Yonkers to unearth an additional segment of the Saw Mill River. This project will improve water quality, provide habitat, leverage private investment and transform the Mill Street Courtyard into a second major public space in downtown Yonkers.
—$1.15 million for Kawasaki Rail Car Inc. in Yonkers to expand its manufacturing operation, investing $16 million and creating 80 new jobs.
—$9.5 million to New Rochelle Industrial Development Agency for rehabilitation of a 100-unit low-income senior housing facility to maintain Maple Terrace as safe, decent, affordable housing for senior citizens.
—$1 million to Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco to double its emergency room space.
—$250,000 to the Peekskill Facilities Development Corporation to renovate 6 buildings and perform streetscape enhancements.
—$480,920 to the Sarah Neuman Center of Jewish Home Lifecare in Mamaroneck to replace an existing administrative building with a new skilled nursing structure as part of a campus redevelopment project.
—$17,000 to Irvington for the Rivertowns Tourism Board to expand its radio marketing campaign in 2013 to cover two “Discover the Rivertowns” weekends that are planned to attract tourists from New York City and the tri-state area.
—$60,000 to Sleepy Hollow will market the Sleepy Hollow Halloween brand, associated historic landmarks, and events and activities held in the area to increase seasonal tourism.
—$200,000 to Tarrytown to design and construct a segment of the Hudson River RiverWalk in Losee Park and improve the park’s ball fields. The project will provide for a RiverWalk along all of the riverfront property owned by the Village and create a connection among the various riverfront parks and properties.
—$250,000 to Yonkers schools to undertake feasibility planning and predevelopment costs for school improvements estimated at $1.7 billion.
—$72,010 to Clean Edison Inc. of New York City will train 38 unemployed workers in Westchester, Orange and Rockland counties in solar photovoltaic installation .
— $1 million to restore and redevelop the Glenwood Power Plant in Yonkers. The $50 million project to stabilize the former power plant buildings, which will lead to a future $155 million mixed-use project that would create a social, business and cultural destination.
—$1.5 million for the expansion of the Echo Bay Waterfront in New Rochelle that will reclaim current commercial/industrial land and provide access to the water’s edge for city residents and regional communities. The project includes 285 new market-rate and affordable rental housing, retail space, and more than 5 acres of public open space.
—$1 million to New York Medical College in Valhalla for Phase 3 expansion of its biomedical incubator (iBio Incubator) space in Valhalla.
—$775,000 to the Hudson Valley Agribusiness Development Corp. in Ulster County to create a Hudson Valley Food Hub that serves the entire region. It will be used to expand food processing and distribution capacity for Farm to Table Co-packers and Hudson Valley Harvest..
Rockland:
—$750,000 to the Village of New Square to assist in expanding the Hatzlacha Supermarket and a local nonprofit, SHARE of New Square. The money will be used to buy vacant property that will house the supermarket on the first floor and SHARE on the second.
—$600,000 to New Square Community Improvement Council to construct a new building for the community grocery store and expansion of SHARE, a major service organization for the community.
—$77,444 to the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference to finish rehabilitating the Appalachian Trail at Bear Mountain in Rockland and Orange counties.
—$500,000 to Bon Secours Charity Health System to build a medical office building for a regional cancer center, medical reference lab and physician practice offices.

Putnam:
