The League of Women Voters of Westchester and League of Women Voters of New Rochelle are sponsoring a forum on updating property-tax assessments at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the City Hall Council Chamber, 515 North Ave., New Rochelle.
The program—“Reassessing Property in Westchester: Fair or Foul?—will address questions such as outdated tax assessments’ impact on property values and taxes, how reassessment works, and ensuring fairness in the process.
The forum will feature state, county and local perspectives on reassessment. Roughly half of the municipalities in Westchester County have reassessed, are reassessing or plan to reassess. In many cases, they haven’t revalued property in decades. The panelists are:
—John Wolham, regional director, Southern Region, New York state Office of Real Property Tax Services
—George Oros, chief of staff for County Executive Rob Astorino
—Michèle Casandra, Pelham town assessor
—Harold Porr III, Bronxville administrator/clerk
—Mitchell Markowitz, Rye Town assessor
—Mark Russell, Yonkers assessor
—Edye McCarthy, Greenburgh assessor
There will be a question-and-answer period after the presentations.
